I live in Stockholm, which IS the capital of Sweden! =) Sometime around Mambo 4.0.x a friend of mine showed me the CMS and I fell for it immediately. It was everything I had been looking for in a CMS but never found. Finally I could scrap my own developed systems.

Web developing is something I've been doing since about 1994 or so, Professionally since 1999. My oldest still running website, that's still being updated at least, turned 11 this year.

Some of my extensions developed for Joomla are: Jambook, Jobline and Mamblog, along with lots of modules and plugins. Recently I haven't really had time to do much Joomla work though. At work I'm currently developing a feature rich intranet application using ExtJS against a REST API backend.

I'm mainly a backend developer, mostly proficient in PHP, but Perl and Javascript are other areas of expertise. Other than that, I've worked with ASP, Java/JSP and a whole range of other stuff. My main OS has been UNIX-like since 1997, having run Linux and FreeBSD on the desktop. Lately it's mostly Mac OSX though.
Nice initiative :)

I'm Torkil, and I live in a small town called Bodø in Northern Norway with my wife and son.

I work at BEDRE reklame as a webdeveloper. Our company is primarily an advertising agency, so I also work in other areas like SEO and with more general web-related consulting services.

We have worked professionally with Mambo since 4.5 I think, and followed over to Joomla when it forked. We also just recently started using the Nooku Framework, which has made our lives as a Joomla developer alot more fun, and I hang around in the Nooku devs chat every day to try to pick up new stuff or share with the others there. Nice gang!

Oh, I almost forgot the shameless self-promoting part of this introduction: BEDRE reklame is also hosting the Joomla Pulse 2010 event here in Bodø in the end of May 2010 (still not officially announced yet), where I hope to see some of you people!

Some (somewhat) interesting facts about Norway:
- As Olle said: Stockholm is the capital of Sweden — Oslo is the capital of Norway. If I can learn all the American states and their capitals, then you (yes I'm looking at you Americans) can learn a couple of European capitals :)
- No, we do not have polar bears here, at least not on the mainland. If you go to Svalbard you can see some there :)
- Norway is known for it's beautiful nature, for instance it's fjords.
- Norway is one of three Western European states that have not applied for membership in the EU. The other two are Switzerland and Lichtenstein.

Where are you from?
Netherlands. I live in Wormer, quite close to Amsterdam. Wormer is just like Amsterdam, but without all the buildings, canals, trams, trains, shops, prostitution, drugs, homeless people and over-the-top gays. :P

Family?
I am married (for 5 years) with Daniëlle and have a 2,5 y.o. daughter, Marissa.

When did you get involved with Joomla!?
I started a website for my church back in the Mambo years. Have been into Mambo -> Joomla since.
I have done a lot of Joomla work for my work with the organization Agapè. And started making extensions (primarily for Agapè, but soon offered them to the public). Since February I do freelance web development work for 2 days a week.

Do you use Joomla! professionally?
So now I make Joomla websites or parts of it for my freelance work. My work or Agapè also revolves around Joomla based websites. In my 'spare' time I create/maintain/update/support my Joomla extensions.
The (free) extensions I have made:
ReReplacer, Modules Anywhere, Sourcerer, Content Templater, Cache Cleaner, BetterPreview, CustoMenu, Modalizer, Frontpage Plus and last but not least: What? Nothing!

What area do you consider to be a strength?
I am quite a perfectionist. That makes me pretty good at delivering quality. But it stabs me in the back when it comes to speed of work :S
I enjoy creating extensions that add functionality to the core of Joomla (usability for administrators). My extensions have all been created as a result of my personal needs in Joomla.
I also have quite some experience in templating (PSD -> template).

Where would you like to see your skills grow?
I would like to grow in knowledge and usage of ajax and mootools/jquery.
Also the fundamentals of how to use classes in programming. I know how to use them, but often aren't sure what the best way is.
I´m from Kotor, Montenegro.

Family: 2 daughters, married.

I use Joomla! from the very first day but i get involved in project as a local moderator, translator and community leader since 2006.

I am using Joomla! professionally as a webmaster for all kind of sites: company, blog, community, portals, portfolio, web-shop etc, and i am very good with tweaking extensions for vertical marketing. Made a big number of sites for real estate.

Strength? Photoshop to Joomla! template. Didn't have time to develop any extension because of the job (IT Manager) and because i was learning SEO (still learn) and PS. I would like to help Joomla! to have complete SEO friendly template.

Skills to grow? SEO, php and ajax.

Glad i am here :)

Hi, I'm Rivo and I'm from Estonia!

I'm been with Joomla! from Mambo times. Version 4.5 was the first I t on a live site and i'v been using Mambo/Joomla since then, it runs all the pages I've built last years. Although I've been keeping my eye on many others CMS's also, But Joomla! is still my favourite.

I'm not a programmer and I'm not in top 10 in design area. But main area, there I can give back to community is localization. Over the years I've done many translations of different software - both Joomla! and non-Joomla! projects. So if You want Your extension to be translated into Estonian, then maybe I can help You out. :)

And also I'm trying to do my best to strengthen the Estonian Joomla! Community.
Hey!

I'm Martin from Austria. I live in a small town close to Vienna and work as PHP developer professionally since about 3 years. My first steps with CMS stuff started shortly before the Mambo/Joomla fork. After dealing with templates and Joomla training I dug into the Joomla framework to create extensions of all kinds. My big project is a product configurator for Joomla, called ConfigBox which is already quite mature and I also created a framework library that takes care of handling backend data listing/entry which I want to release as GP or MIT licensed package. I'm following a couple of RSS feeds to stay up to date with Joomla related things and I really like the idea of a social network of Joomla developers and hope many people come on board!
Where are you from?
New York City via St. Petersburg, Russia and Richmond, VA

Family?
Married to a fellow Joomla geek :-) No kids yet.

When did you get involved with Joomla!?
I built my first CMS-based site using Mambo right before the fork and then very quickly updated it to Joomla 1.0. It was amazing how much easier Joomla made building and updating websites. I immediately made building Joomla websites my newest hobby and for the next couple of years built sites for whomever would let me (friends, family and fools :-) )

Do you use Joomla! professionally?
Yes, every day. At Dioscouri Design by supporting clients who purchase our Joomla! extensions and by building custom websites for clients. In addition to that, I'm also using Joomla! for a couple of startup ideas.

Where would you like to see your skills grow?
Since the rest of the Dioscouri team has the development of components covered, I'd like to grow my template development skills.

Although I spent a couple of years away from Joomla, I've discovered that it's like riding a bike - you never really forget. Now I'm back and planning on sticking around :-)

I can't wait to jump in and meet more people in the Joomla community!

Cheers :-)
