Show module on all pages except... (revisited)
I am continuing the discussion I posted as blog earlier:
Patch: Show module on all pages except...
A forum item is a little better for discussion.
Anyway, I have found a way to do the stuff I published as a patch without having to patch!
So with a component and plugin.
I have called it: Advanced Modules
These are the extra options it offers over the core functionality of Joomla!
- Ability to select menu items to exclude the module on (so the opposite of the select from list option)
- Ability to edit modules via a modal window
- Display of active modules in the menu item edit screens.
I know, it isn't that much to justify the 'Advanced' in the name. But I will be adding more features, like:
- define display of module by sections/categories selection
- define display of by user group level selection
I also gave a link to a plugin I slapped together (Active Modules). If you have installed it, please uninstall it and through it away :)
But if you turn of the system plugin (System - Advanced Modules) everything should be working as before.

In the blog I gave the code for the patch. Please revert back to the core code. The patch is no longer necessary. Which is good, 'cause I hate patches!I also gave a link to a plugin I slapped together (Active Modules). If you have installed it, please uninstall it and through it away :)

Please test it out. Remember, this is a very early alpha version. So probably quite some bug.But if you turn of the system plugin (System - Advanced Modules) everything should be working as before.

Gonna try this out now.
Correct me if I'm wrong but this serves a bigger function than simply negating the need to turn on a said module each time a menu item is added. (tedious but at least do-able)
It also address the issue that unless a module is always on then every article that requires the module to be on must have it's own menu item (even if hidden). -

The way Advanced Modules is set up, allows it to be extended with more filters/features.
But this is just what I started out with.
So yes, in the coming versions I could add extra stuff like: Only show on certain sections/categories/articles.
Or filter by components or user group levels or what not... -
