I have run up on a situation where I'm increasingly dissatisfied with my current registrar. At first all was very good and service was excellent, but now things are so bad i'm sort of worried about losing domains in the confusion, and there is no communication from them other than automated messages.
I was wondering, for those of you who as site developers also control domain registration for your clients, who do you recommend? I don't need a hosting company, just a registrar.
I like networksolutions, but honestly, unless you're registering or renewing for 5+ years, they are just entirely too overpriced.
Thanks for your input!

I really need very basic services. For the most part, I just need to register, renew and transfer domains, Privacy protect and theft protect the domains and point the DNS to my hosting provider's server.
I'm looking at directNIC.com, as they seem to have these basics. Their registration/transfer and renewal fees are $10.00 and they allow for DNS editing for an extra $5.00.
