Maybe our group name is wrong - we can change that, too. In fact, that might kick off a good discussion.

I've not quite understood the role of "PR" or "Marketing" with a free software community. Transparency flies in the face of most Public Relations principles and free software communities thrive on it. Marketing is also a bit of an odd fit since our principle product is free (as in beer.) Strengthening the ecosystem is a good goal.

Evangelism has that religious aspect that we can certainly do without - unless we are singing the praises of community involvement and making the business case clear for participation and collaboration.

It's the stories like Rene shared in his blog post Amazing what you can build in 4 weeks that we need to make more visible. For me, the goal isn't really to get more users, but rather to get more people like Rene involved who can then contribute back to the others and give us all more to use in our work.

So, what's a good word for that? I'm not sure I know.

Hi Amy, I agree with you, at my first glance this morning I had to question what group you had added me to!
Agree with the terminology Marketing, and the closest word I can think of is "Promotional Activity" that might be suitable.
Anyhow, at least we are talking about it!

Allan - I think (?) as an Administrator, you can change that name, so, once you get an agreement or feel from everyone as to what that should be, I say go for it. This is the fun stuff, to me. Sharing the cool stuff folks have accomplished.
