For this, of course Juliet meant Joomla!.

What is our name going to be? I created a group called International Event. That might as well be some United Nations event. It says nothing about Joomla! or why we'd be getting together.

Don't forget! In order to use the name Joomla!, we have to submit a name request. The closest fit I see is the Logo and name use request form.

I've been tweeting this as the Joomla! International Event since Joomla! Days have their own rules and, I believe, are limited to local communities. But, it dawns on me, we don't know what we want to call this First Ever Joomla! International Event.

What does everyone think? And Robert, if we have not submitted the form, we should do so. It won't take long to get a response, I am certain. This is an exciting community-driven initiative that I am certain everyone is behind.

I already started pricing airline tickets. I'm sure those prices will come down before May! Eek! ;-)

Come on people! Joomla! International Community Conference is not a name, this is a description unusable for a name - this will and in a sea of unmemorable abbreviations - use your imagination please! Play with words e.g. CommJoonity (community, joomla & unity combined) or shorter Joonity .. Jrefresh.. perhaps even try to find something not directly unrelated to those words (like forbidden fruit did for computers) - e.g. FastForward

lol! OK, I officially bow out of naming the unofficial event! hehe! Honestly, I don't care so much about the name, I'm much more interested in the event selection process and like where that's at. I'll let name people discuss!

Robert - I think a poll is a good idea!

Arno - a poll just provides a bit more information, agree, it shouldn't be a decider. It gives folks a way to participate - building involvement is always a good thing.

I wonder if a few of you with branding experience should work on this? And come back with ideas?

For me, the content matters most and I like where that session proposal and voting is at - that will drive the conference, IMO.
If you anticipate trouble with the naming, call it an International Conference on Joomla. That naming structure avoids all trademark entanglements -- you never need a trademark owner's permission to hold a conference on (or about) a product.

As for conference names, there are plenty of low-hanging-fruit to choose from: JConference comes to mind immediately (JCon for short) as a play off the way Joomla keeps adding a J in front of every class name in the system. (Source of the idea, a variation on the rails conference "acts_as_conference".)

JAccess could be another choice.

You could even try JEvent.

Even "mod_conference" or "mod_con" for short.
The J words would be problematic since OSM claims J, J!, Jooml, Joom, Joo, and Joomla.

We could use jByte.me since that j stands for Just. :-P

This is not going to be a problem. Could you imagine the media circus? Surely, we can cooperate.
I am with Robert. Call it what it is:

An

International Joomla Conference

I also don't like abbreviations. (like Michel)

Achim
They can claim anything they wish until they get sued for claiming it. J ? give me a break. Infringements are judged by similarity and potential confusion that might result from them - perhaps joom for CMS fits into that category, but anything less - hardly . Oh my, no no OSM on JooJoo, or here Joop! or Joost - the last two are also registered trademarks in EU.
I think the most important thing is that everybody of you now votes on your favorite name first: http://twtpoll.com/r/2as5yx then we see the outcome and decide upon this.

Please read before you ask questions Erik, there is enough explanation about it here in the logo and name discussions.

Thanks for the friendly reminder, just didn't see the middle page (due to the lack of pagination in ning?)

Still, "j and beyond" doesn't do it for me. My first thought was: beyond = drupal and wordpress. well, just my opinion...
@Achim - the pagination is at the bottom of the page - First, Previous, Next, Last - it's been difficult for many to see.
Tweet from Alex, RT by Brian, 1 hour ago:

just had a great team call about the #ijc #joomla conference in Wiesbaden 2010 - name is decided and some other stuff.

Okay... so what has been decided? Just wanted to vote in the poll, but that seems not necessary anymore? Thought we still had some days.
Looks like the poll has a published closing date of today. Over half of the folks were for JoomCon - international Joomla! Conference . We'll soon see!
