I volunteer to write a review of James Kennard's Joomla! 1.5 Development Cookbook for use in the Magazine. I can have it available for 01/2010 if so desired.
These are a little more social science than computer science and thus tend to be a little bit broad. But, I would still like to post them up here for critique. A project like this needs criticism to reach its full potential, so please hurt my feelings! :-)

Privacy and Joomla:

Many Joomla sites collect data, but relatively few show more than a passing awareness of privacy issues. This topic could go in many different directions - from a review of privacy laws in various countries, to case studies on privacy policies with tips on how to write your own.

Open Source Social Activism

In the 1960s, activists had guitar amps and LSD. In the oughts, we have open source content management systems and social media. Not-for-profits and activist groups have discovered the power and value of open source and are using the technology to spread their messages, rally their troops and build their brands. Disclosure - I am something of an activist, and I helped start a not-for-profit street magazine which functions almost completely on open source technology and ideals. I am intensely biased in this area.

PCI Compliance, Joomla, and the Future of eCommerce

Credit card fraud is a massive problem. Over the next number of years, all credit card companies will likely follow the lead of Visa and American Express and force their merchants to become PCI compliant. What do Joomla owners know about PCI DSS compliance? What do they need to know?
Many of the so-called Joomla questions I answer on the forums, are actually web design/hosting questions... So I would like to volunteer to write a small section title something like "NOTHING ABOUT JOOMLA".

In this article we could talk about things such as hosting, DNS, nameservers, image editing... etc etc.
Love it, Norm!
Those are some excellent ideas, Norm!

I regularly contribute to an internet security blog and one of the most successful groups of articles I wrote was an introduction to security technology. It was truly amazing how few people understand basic protocols like TCP/IP, DNS, and HTTP vs HTTPS. They were fun to write and very well received!

Something tells me that your look at 'naj' would be even more successful.
I can write a piece about how the process of creating the name and subsequent branding of Joomla!, plus some insights into the brand essence process, advice received from some pretty interesting people including Guy Kawasaki, Dave Taylor and Ken McCarthy. And the Darren Woolley process of deriving a mantra or essence through a team process. All pretty interesting stuff.
@ Jacques - Wow you have a lot of really great ideas here! I think the translation part may be difficult but perhaps others who are much more knowledgable about that than me can respond about that.

I hope that we get the chance to implement your ideas. Thanks again for all the thought and all the vision you have for the magazine!
