This is a vey interesting development. I am in no way affiliated to weaverapps but have used it on our company site. It really is a great alternative to building a mobile app.

It's really refreshing and nice to hear and read some insightful and sensitive discussion on the joomla community issues. I tip toe too like a mouse, and practiced at jab11, rubbing shoulders with blind optimists, business owners, subtle…

How to get better Joomla article previews

Thumbnail
I have lost count of the times I have seen faces of disappointment when an article editor clicks on that lovely Joomla preview button only to see the bare bones of their article pop-up in a modal stylee.Huge but fairly safe assumption: I think what people really want to see is the article in all its glory - full contextual surround of the template, plugins and modules display. So I scratch head and wondered how to achieve this in J1.5 The solution seemed to come back to version control or having…See More

Amy thanks for the conceptual massage and openness you bring to this thread. Thinking down the line.. Is there a favoured existing template framework for Malajo to begin with? Where is the place for such thinking/Qs aside from this thread. (can an…

I have been out of the loop on1.6 development but I cant quite understand how this relates to J1.6 - why isnt this happening in the 'core' joomla project team - I mean being driven from there as opposed from ATAAW? What's the…

Me thinks you need a formula: something along lines of A= cost to develop B= cost to support C= year one sales You need a bsiness model to support it to. The typical Joomla business model for GPL stuff seems to be subscriptions and updates and…

Tricky one. I assume its a commercial extension? Its a bit like having an itch and wondering whether your scrubbing brush that's brand new, polished and highly effective will be preferred for scratching backs when the shorter brush that is…

Modular frameworks are still frameworks ;) Look at MooTools, where you can create and download a package that contains the needed classes, on the fly. Pretty handy! I agree that bloat is not something you want. Like com_banners… bleh.

Arno - it's interesting looking at the various template frameworks. When they first started to emerge, I went back and looked at yours. These template frameworks say something about the work the designer who developed them provides. Yours shows…

The thing for me is, I like to build from or use little base stuff and extent it with what is really needed in a specific situation instead of having a huge pile of stuff I don't need in the first place. Whether that is a php framework,…

Actually, Arno does have his own template framework that he shared in the Joomla! Magazine a couple of years ago. He just might not realize that they put a fancy name on that lately. ;)

Arno: Why reinvent the wheel? If you build templates, I think you're using a framework already, probably your own, you're just not calling it "a framework" :) Lots of CSS can be reused: Code for menus, typography, grids,…

Template frameworks

OK so we are seeing a lot of template frameworks springing up. Snazzy jazzy interfaces for altering aspects of a templates colors, image rotators (thinking Gantry here). I think the most interesting aspect is the width adjustments in layouts (again Gantry comes to mind). Having fine control of various rows of modules within a WYSIWYG environment is nice for clients.

But on the other hand i just dont get it. Why would I or an organisation/business owner want this level of control? Its… Continue

Using mootools in admin component development

Does anyone know of a good tutorial on using the Mootools library to make custom components have some nice ajax, and js effects? In particular best practice on using it in the MVC framework. I see the odd snippet reference here and there but no guide on how to include its use in an admin component. For example how to affect an item record from the admin list row without reloading the page, or using a slider reveal for additional record data in a standard admin view.
