Actually I think Virtue Mart has a great online manual - but still with some major flaws. EG in section 4.6.6 it tells you: "To add a new file, let's say an .mp3 file which is the file we want to sell, we just open the file form by…

"I made this decision and something I didn't expect happened. ... This was an unexpected HAPPY HAPPY feeling." I can totally relate to this. That's exactly what happens when you contribute. Thanks so much for this.

Thanks for the story Carolien, remembers me of the time when I joined the Mambo core team years ago. It's very strange but you become part of a different kind of family and community who all work hard for a common goal. And yeah, it should be…

Fun of being involved in a Joomla! extension project

I'm sharing this because of this quote I read in this blogpost http://www.alltogetherasawhole.org/profiles/blogs/volunteers-are-falling-short: It must be fun and encourage participation on every level to support the Joomla idea as a whole.Only since recently I joined the Joom!Fish core team. I'm not involved in the core Joomla! project, but in an extension project. I hold the view that the Joomla!…See More

I think Joomlapack has quite good documentation. It has a real user manual with updates etc.

I think the reason this discussion is so quiet is because there isn't much high quality documentation out there and we all (as developers) have the same questions you have. Documentation for my extensions is high on my todo list too. But it…

The Joomla! User Guide TOC looks great! It covers the User Interface - Core Features - how to use them when creating a Web site. That's a good scope for this group. I'd say, let's get moving on it if others like the TOC Scope you…

I, too, believe it should not be a manual for all levels. However, I do believe there should be strong cross referencing between the levels so that the reader can zoom in or out on detail to arrive at that level which most meets their needs. This…

Yes, this is not a developers group, for certain. It will be user interface driven documentation. Should you and I (and whomever else wants to jump in?) work on a Joomla! 1.6 Developer Guide? I can create another group.

I strongly believe that this should not be a manual for all levels and type of users. Having different manuals for end-users and developers (if someone can write it) would be fine.

I totally agree, might even end up with three manuals. 1. Site builders 2. Administrators 3. Content providers (for those who "only" add content: write articles, upload photos and such.)

Who is our target audience

Hi,to write a good user guide/manual we need to determine/identify the target audience. I think it'll end up in a couple of user manuals that we're going to write, or we select just one. So the outcome of this discussion must be 'who are target audience, what level of computer and Joomla! experience do they have and how are they going to use the user manual'. When the target audience is determined we can select the topics we want to cover.I took this as a resource (just the first hit on Google)…See More

Examples of good user documentation for a Joomla! extension

Thumbnail
Hi everyone,I'm part of the Joom!Fish project and planning on improving the user documentation. That's really needed IMO.So to prevent myself from reinventing the wheel I'm asking you to list websites/extensions who have excellent user documentation. This way I can learn from it and the users will end up with 'good' documentation hopefully. We also can discuss what makes up good user documentation, and what causes less good user documentation.Feel free to list and discuss other resources on…See More

I started with Joomla! in early 2008. I'm a 1.5 only girl :) I've been helping out on the Phoca forums for about a year and recently quit with this, because of a lack of time. Since the end of 2008 I'm a moderator on the Joom!Fish forums, and I just accepted the position of Core Team Member :).

Welcome to the Group!

I just started using Joom!Fish with K2 recently, and find it very interesting, a somewhat easy way to broaden our websites scope in the marketplace.
