Greg Hluska replied to Amy Stephen's discussion 'Article ideas' in the group Joomla! Community Magazine
Those are some excellent ideas, Norm! I regularly contribute to an internet security blog and one of the most successful groups of articles I wrote was an introduction to security technology. It was truly amazing how few people understand basic…

Thanks very much for the reply, Paul... I could see that step fitting in to two different places. It might be nice to put an informal review between steps 1 and 2 - that way, a piece will be edited for style, voice and grammar before it moves on to…

Greg Hluska replied to Amy Stephen's discussion 'Getting started with Joomla! Hints' in the group Joomla! 1.6 User Guide
Thank you very much for the reply - sorry I have been away for so long. Non-virtual life got in the way! I would love any and all help in my little quest to help introduce more not-for profits to open source technology. And I would like to offer my…

I am a better researcher/writer than an editor, but I will help out in whatever way I am called upon.

These are a little more social science than computer science and tend to be a little bit broad. But, I would still like to post them up here for critique. Privacy and Joomla: Many Joomla sites collect data, but relatively few show more than a…

I hate to add in another level of complexity, but I have always been a huge fan of having two stages of edits - an informal stage where writers edit each other followed by a more formal stage where "Editor A" polishes a piece and makes it…

Please note - if I am not online when I get home tonight, you may get to read about me in the news..."Canadian wacko runs through the streets, lies down in fetal position, starts to cry." My Mom will be so proud...;-)

Greg Hluska replied to Amy Stephen's discussion 'Getting started with Joomla! Hints' in the group Joomla! 1.6 User Guide
Writing a quick start guide is one of the most difficult exercises in the entire field of training. Not only is it intensely difficult to decide exactly what information a new user needs right away, it is also one of the most thankless tasks on the…

Greg Hluska replied to Chris Szabo's discussion 'Getting the monthly Joomla! Community Magazine back on the rails' in the group Outreach
I helped start a not-for-profit magazine a few years ago. While the process has often been vexing, it has been extraordinarily rewarding - not only have we helped a whole lot of people out, we have run some incredible stories, helped some people out…

A relative newbie to the Joomla world, I have learned a whole lot in the fourteen months since my first exposure to Joomla. While initially focused on Joomla as a business platform, I have gotten extraordinarily into the idea of 'open source activism', aka the fact that small not for profits can use open source technology and social media tools to build a web presence that rivals that of major corporations.

My main areas of interest are e-commerce, information architecture and search engine optimization, though I hate the acronym SEO. I have also been known to obsess over stylesheets, pull out my hair with javascript and rock out on the forum (under a couple of different profiles).
