Dennis Kmetz and I recently gave a talk on "The Process of Building Joomla Web Sites" for the inaugural Joomla Chicago - Loop meeting this month.  We just posted the video and slides on the JoomlaChicago.com Web site; it may be of interest to folks here. Here's the link:The Process of Building Joomla Web Sites - Video and slides We welcome your feedback either here or in the…See More

Justin Kerr commented on Joss Sanglier's blog post 'Joomla, the not so FREE CMS'
A couple points: Joss, you seem to be new to developing Web sites, as you don't have a handle on Web site processes and costs.  As others have stated, you can pay in time or in money: If you don't want to pay for an extension, then…

You know, Amy, you are anything but defective!  The funny thing is: I think people know you more as a significant community personality who's willing to bend over backward to help people out, as well as give tons of your own time to push…

Thanks, everyone, for your thoughtful replies. I think this is  part of the classic conflict between business and IT that's seen nearly everywhere.  To me, Drupal is a little bit of a different situation, because the Drupal community…

Well, I think that if you're a coder, of course it's all about the code.  But if you're more on the user/business end of this software, it's about a whole bunch of things.  My comments were not intended to offend, but…

Given the current market situation, I think that a fork of Joomla would face a long, uphill climb.  From business users' perspectives, Joomla is "good enough" -- more than good enough, actually.  From what I understand, many…

Part of the challenge of a fork of Joomla would be working against the massive business and community interest already built up around the product and brand.  A group of developers going off on their own is one thing, but if a fork is to…

Justin Kerr commented on Amy Stephen's blog post 'eBay Agrees to Acquire Magento and Joomla! eBay Update'
Hopefully, eBay won't fuck things up. Still, nothing would inspire a successful fork of Joomla like a corporate heavy trying to take control. I'm not saying that eBay has anything like this in their plans, but let's face it, no…

Justin Kerr commented on Steven Zeegers's blog post 'My view about the JCM debates'
Hi Bo! I hear what you're saying, but the JCM is the official editorial mouthpiece of the Joomla project, so it's natural that, editorially speaking, they wouldn't take too far of a walk on the wild side.  It seems like they have…

I don't find this type of editorial bias to be uncommon.  Unfortunate, perhaps, yes, but not uncommon.  Every publication has a right to refuse any type of submitted content, and as the "official" editorial mouthpiece of the…

Amy and Jen did a great job presenting Molajo at CMS Expo on Tuesday.  I look forward to taking this product for a drive!  It was very interesting that Andrew Eddie was in the audience for the Molajo presentation.  Being the…

Thanks for sharing your job openings, Andrew.  I hope you don't mind, but I wanted to make a little design suggestion for your cartanova.ca Web site.  You have this really nice background graphic that seems to fit right in and support…

Another advantage that Joomla has over Wordpress

I found the following interview between one of the WordPress co-founders and a douchey business guy ripping off the GPL to be very interesting:

When picking an open source solution, it's just as important to consider the community behind the open source project as it is the product itself. Joomla has already gone through these issues (was it a year or two ago?)… Continue

Hey Justin, I just sent you an email. Trying to figure out what's up as well. Not having any issue with this myself, but would like to find out why it's happening to you.
