JNotifySMS: How I got into Joomla Development

Our 2nd Year projects at University were coming up. I had been messing around with Joomla! for a while, but hadn't done anything serious. The prospect of having to write a project proposal got me thinking: isn't there something useful I could do on Joomla?Of course, to develop something useful, I had to find a problem. In countries like Sri Lanka, people don't often check their email because they don't have the infrastructure for it, however, they do have mobile phones. Almost everyone in Sri…See More

Why I love working on the Joomla! Bug Squad

I joined the Joomla Bug Squad at the end of October, and since then, I've definitely had a great time.Of course, as a new recruit, I can't go around fixing major bugs the likes of which Mark, Amy and the other Joomla! veterans are squashing, but I did manage to add a few patches that got committed to the core code. It was an awesome feeling to see that the first ever patch I submitted was committed to the Joomla! 1.6 repository and bore the status 'Fixed in SVN'.The other members of the Joomla!…See More

Hi, I'm an undergrad student at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. I've been using Joomla! as an end-user for about 2 years, as well as doing a bit of development. You can find my latest extension development project at http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/smssubscribe1. I worked as a mentor on the JConnekt 2.0 project for the Joomla! Student Outreach Program in 2010 along with Arunoda Susiripala. I am also currently a member of the Joomla! Bug Squad, and had the privilege in adding bug fixes towards the release of Joomla! 1.6.
