Badging solution or extension in Joomla 1.5

I have seen copy-and-paste badges all over the net; especially on blogger powered websites. I even saw one on brian's page.

After few while I thought it is a great idea to have it (copy-and-paste my site badge) on my Joomla project. What I am looking for is not having external badge (ie. ATAAW or other sites) implemented to my site; but instead having those badges like in blogger powered sites or even like the one we have here in ATAAW (bottom right corner).

Google was my first approach. Found nothing. Then, I took quite some time researching for this including went on extensions.joomla.org to find such modules. To my surprise, i discovered having this badge thingy is not really easy as I thought it would be.

My only finding for this was Mike Feng's simbunch extension ParaInvite. Parainvite offer badging solutions for Joomla, however only as addons extension at USD 144 (ParaInvite Pro). Unfortunately, even if I am considering this extension, Simbunch's extensions only extend JomSocial & CB. While I am only using com_user for my J! project, that means I am left with no option.

I have no clue if this is something obvious and easy to have, or not as easy as we thought it would be (with component or module). However, I think it is not impossible to achieve this with Joomla. As for now, I am spending my spare time on getting this happen.

What do you guys think about this? If you guys have tutorials on having this as custom modules etc. Please, share it with us :)

Hi Amy,

No problem. I still have less idea to achieve this (pardon my noobness as I am a non-coder). Getting that image part is easy but having that codes to display in that iframe is not. Plus I am implementing with dynamic URL for JReview, which means each user or page with its own badge (user1 badge link to user1 page, user2 yada yada yada).

If only Mike's willing to fork out that badge solution he has from his ParaInvite extension. He seems to figure this out with that badge addon (and the only who actually did, at least in my research and findings). There is badging solution for JomSocial by socialcode, but that is slightly different with what I am talking about on the above (Blogger-ish or Ning-ish badges).

Hopefully it flows :)

Hi

A "badging" extension would be awesome, simply put in the various variable you need in the back end admin for it, such as URL, image location, etc and the extension would figure out the code for you, and download the image to your server.

You could then have a sort order for your badges, and display them all in one location, kind of like credit cards accepted (if you know what I mean). Is that what you meant Ajmal, or have I just gone off on a completely different tangent? (sorry if I have!)

Hi Ben,

yup you got it! :)

I dont know where, it looks like I have seen this before (could be that simbunch). Maybe in my dreams ;P

I wish I know codes; then I could just start doing something about it. I just hate depending on others. But that doesnt i shouldnt try! We'll see how this goes. I bet we gonna get this worked on one way or another.
