So I got banned last month, and have a few questions related to that ban.

It's a long discussion, and JomSocials reversed comments order doesn't make it easier.
So here's the post notifying me of my ban:

Sandra Warren,
@Stian I have warned you not in this thread and you seem bent on discussing off topic issues in this thread. So congratulations, you are the very first ban in JPeople for posting inappropriate content After warnings. I am quite sure you knew this was coming.

I find it very amusing that this first ban of this kind happened on THIS post about Moderation. I think that solidifies the need for moderation and perhaps even more moderation.

Consider this your notice that you are now banned.

Now since I'm the first one ever banned from there, there's no previous record for how that works.

So I have a few questions I would love to ask, but obviously can't on j! people:
  • What's the length of the ban period?
  • Shouldn't ban notices give you an opportunity to redeem yourself? Everyone can screw up once in a while so we should be civil right?
  • Is my ban a permanent even though the Community Guidelines state you get 3 warnings first?

If anyone could answer that, I would be very grateful.

Thanks.

It's remember me of "Any customer can have a car painted any colour that he wants so long as it is black."
Any user may discuss with the J!-Leaders as long the user agree with their point of view :(

I wanted to read the discussion, but I am going crossed eyed with the reverse posting. Strange that you have to go the end first. Then when changing pages, you have to scroll to be bottom and then read up. Real turn off!

A good argument on why commenting should be unrestricted (like here on ataaw). Rather than letting everyone have their opinion (and move on). Moderators telling user off that they should not have said that or have that opinion, just fuels the fire.

Looks like Amy will be the next one banned based on Sandra Warren last comment. Very sad situation.....

Good questions, Stian.

That was an unfortunate situation. As you can see in my responses, I was hoping we could deescalate the situation and avoid a senseless argument.

It'd be appropriate for the CLT to re-instate Stian's membership in People and let's move forward together and start to rebuild trust.

@Radek I'm afraid so :S

@Marius that's JomSocial for you, as Brian points out in that discussion Azrul thinks of it as a feature.

@Amy I agree. Good thing I'm not banned from the bugtracker though ;)

@Stian, I asked on the forum and apparently there is no specific policy about ban terms, etc. It's all handled on a case-by-case basis and you have to ask them on the forum if you want to be re-admitted. They may or may not let you in.

I am so proud of both Mark and Stian. That's character.

Doing the right thing, not only for oneself but for others (community) indeed requires plenty of character.
+ 1 Stian and Mark as well!

Looks like the ban is lifted. Let us all show the character Mark and Stian demonstrated for us.

Glad to see commonsense prevailed, yet the fact that it required public scrutiny here before the respective ban was lifted says a lot!
