Clean up unused files in the /images/stories map

Do you have that too? You add content to Joomla, publish it, unpublish it, delete old articles etcetera.
Often you include an image or a link to a pdf file in the article to spice it a bit up.
But when you delete the articles, it is often forgotten to clean up the files and images that you linked to from your article and that reside in your website under the /images/stories map.

Recently a client asked me if I could produce a list of files under /images/stories that were no longer used in any article, category, section or module. I wrote a shell script to find these files and was able to clean up over 140 MB of files that were taking unnecessary space.

Want to know how I did it? Read the article on my blog: http://www.renekreijveld.nl/blog/hosting/tracking-unused-files-in-j...

Ooops! We must have been posting simultaneously (I removed mine, now)! That's a great article, interesting script. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for that... I was considering doing this for sites that are at the age of Mambo 4.0, but never had the time to work on it :)
