What I suspected more then year ago (with all that chasing of trademarks etc.) is becoming true.
Joomla! probably goes corporate and the community goes in the sink. More details on:

A sad day for Joomla! OSdM and the poor COC, which basically sold a community project.

What do you think?

Ivo, I think they're being transparent: good
I also read OSM still a not for profit: good
I also see they appointed 6 new members: good
OSM protecting Joomla: good
Overall I think: good

There has been a lot of "political talk" around here and if it has good points (a chester is sometimes needed) it also has had some quite bad ones (like giving an image of ataaw as a bunch of pirates ready to take the Joomla ship). I see that post of Elin as a positive move towards transparency and not as selling anything over. I might be wrong, but I think I 'm right :)

I understand there are a lot in the community that do not agree with the direction and leadership approach taken by OSM and project leadership. And probably with good reason. However, I don't see much new there than had already been public (community) knowledge if one does not attempt to "'read between the lines" and conjure up conspiracies.

Ivo, you probably misread it, that seems reveal only one new info, that CoC indeed had intentions to create some sort of company out of Joomla.
Ivo Apostolov Comment by Ivo Apostolov on February 15, 2010 at 4:48pm
Klas, that is the most important info.

Ivo - that 'new info' refers to the beginning of 2009. A lot of water has been under the bridge since then. Wouldn't it be a good plan to see how things develop with all the new Members on the Board? ...to give them our encouragement and support?
Ivo Apostolov Comment by Ivo Apostolov on February 15, 2010 at 5:43pm
Board Members were elected by the COC. And the COC was the one who ordered the research for setup of a Company. And some major people are still in the board.

Ivo,

we are in a process of finding a solution for a problem and Elin's posting is the report of the actual state. Not more not less.

The question is, why it is a problem that OSM is not a company? Or otherwise said, why there is a problem that Joomla! does not have a company or probably why there is a need for a Company?
Companies have owners, does that mean Joomla! would have owner?
Ivo Apostolov Comment by Ivo Apostolov on February 16, 2010 at 5:29am
Leo, I don't have particular case.

So Ivo - do you think the Drupal community is going down the sink as well how about those other companies listed in the post?

Can you explain why you think this is a bad idea, as in how you beleive this would effect Joomla as an open source project and why you automatically jump to the conclusion any company created by OSM would have 'bought' the rights to the Joomla code?
