Get in touch with regional communities - meet at J and Beyond

I'm currently trying to get in touch with various people from Joomla User groups, regional portals or other points in which the world wide community meet. Some of the contacts I have already others I miss so far.

Why? This is quite simple. We like to arrange a possibility to meet in person during the J and Beyond conference in May 2010. As I'm currently working on a sponsorship program I also think about how people could be supported to meet during this event. One idea is offering a regional sponsor a place or other recognition if they helped covering the costs of one or two community members to attend the event.

First step is getting in touch with you as interested community members - may be you can reply here and we can find out what you need.

I think at least for the US this might be true. In Germany there are no entries :-(.

Yes, I mean the sponsor/partner should help covering the travel costs and a little fee for the ticket and room. Of course it can become fairly expensive and this is the reason why I think we should really acknowledge this support. But I know from other events that companies did this - sometimes even without a recognition.

personally,
meetup is a spam/off topic mailing system. in the uk, 60 miles is not local.
Also for some of the JUGs there may be a case of "as theres no chance we will meet up at a "j conference" in a foreign county, why bother.
on the plus side, the joomla jug forum, jug page and various linked in pages cover most places.

@Jacques - I fully agree this is why I'm going through this effort. The point is that I need some help from the communities as well. They know better which company we can speak to and offer a something that they understand as benefit.

So all please point your friends, people you speak to and others to this event and let them get in touch with me. This way we can help getting something positive done.

Hi Alex,
we will post this idea on our new website at www.jugn.de
We will also point our members, friends and customers.
I can speak to some customers or to myself :-) to sponsor a ticket for one jugn member.

Great idea. Thanks Alex.

Sponsorship idea seems really good, since that would be the only way to attend from Estonia.
But probably too good for to be hoping for. :D

Hi Alex,

I'm just starting to organize a JUG in my State (Paraná) in Brazil and believe there are great possibilities for this to go forward and be successful, specially if the event is JUG oriented.
