Integrating payment gateways
Hi 'All',
I need to integrate a credit card payment system in a client's (joomla) site which is someting I have no experience with. It needs to be hooked into a custom(ized) reservations component (I was looking at Planyo, anybody got any experience with it?).
What are your solutions, do you use existing components and if so, which ones are dependable (as in safe)? What do I lookout for when integrating a payment gateway, what are the pitfalls security wise? I'm a noob to this subject, so be gentle :)

We've always written the payment gateway handling into the components that need it. There's a huge variation with the way that they all work, some requiring detailed tokenization on the server with a large number of fields (e.g. Sage Pay, formally ProtX) while others are easier , e.g. PayPal.
I remember looking a few years ago for something like this, if you find anything that's good then please share it. I suppose I should be making plugins / components for these kinds of things when I make them ;)

I wish you had ;) There are a few extensions in the JED, but they don't quite cover our needs. Either they're PayPal, or some exotic gateway, or they are extension specific solutions. I'm a bit apprehensive towards writing the code but I know it's gotta be done. Are there any generic tips you can share, especially concerning safety and fraud prevention?

The entire site has yet to be built and I am completely open to suggestions as I haven't found any ready-built extension that fits our needs. It looks like it has to be custom built. Thanks for those links Helio, I'll definitely check them out.
