Rochen servers are housed in Dallas, TX from what I understand. So that is why you see a time that is equal to GMT -6 as a timestamp.
Where else would you host such an important site? (ducking quickly out of the way)

Joomla.org and many other domains that have large international communities should use GMT as their base time, clearly state this, and provide option for users to set time to their own locale during sessions or permanently, if desired.
@HarryB - Year and more ago (prior to my ban), I was insisting on j.org becoming international. My concept was refused due to Ole's idea (quite different, not bad, but IMO quite impossible). After more than 14 months, nothing was done.
You can see the result here: http://international.joomla.org/
Joomla can't be all American; 01 March 2010 is not an American date format! :P
@Brian it's possible that the other sites are copying the date and time in as plaintext, while JoomlaConnect is interpreting the date and timezone offset in the RSS, then recording it in server's local time.
In any event, yes, I agree with HarryB about basing everything on GMT and letting the visitors pick.
