Marcos Peebles

J and Beyond, far beyond expectations!

Well, the first #JAB is over. What a journey!

I felt it before going there... you could sense this was the not-to-miss encounter. I was wrong! It was much better.

I lack the words and am still computing all the info we shared during those very intensive three (or four) days. Speaking for myself I think that while sleeping average 3/4 hours a day the adrenaline got you up, you didn't feel the fatigue and off to next sessions you were. I was impossible attending all of them, so even people who participated are -I am sure- waiting for the videos to be put online, so if you did not attend don't be that sad, we're on the same boat.

One thing that struck me is that all the people - that is "all" like in "every person I spoke to"- said the same: it is not only about the sessions, it's the in betweens. The feeling of meeting friends, familiar faces (although it helps having a t-shirt with your name on it), the 'hey, we all share the same issues" feeling, the jokes about Joomla you can't make in your real life (where you get the answer "yeah, (s)he's a geek, work with computers"), some persons you'd never thought were so nice because they appeared kinda rude sometimes on screen, well so many experiences I am not able yet now to describe as it needs some time to 'pour down'.

Call me a dreamer, and I am, I think this J and Beyond set a new road map in Joomla's history (and yes, not a spork, fork, ...) within its community and that in 5 years we will mark this date, the same way the "oldies" speak about their first meeting back then.

What about you guys?

Note: The people who did not attend should seriously consider doing that next year, start putting money aside and tell your family you will take a week next year to-wherever-it-will-be.

Lesson learned.

Was not at all aimed personally at you Amy, you were certainly the most missed person over there but your presence was there and your JOSCAR received an overwhelming applause!
YOU started alltogetherasawhole > Took the heat > Kept on, welcomed people > Conference? > Idea took life again > JAB name > Jab site > BEST EVENT EVER , so who's the mom :P , /me says Credit were due!
Thank you again for this and all the hours you have given to give 180 people live probably the best experience of a conference EVER ! And next year will be even better, we are all speechless, what a thing you took us on! Ok, I stop here need to recover.

Oh no, no, no! I took NO offense. My message was short because, my friend, you said it all!

You don't always need to be so nice, but I gotta tell you, you are an encourager and I have leached more passion off of you than you can imagine. I think you are really special, Marcos, and we are fortunate to have you in Joomla!.

JandBeyond was so important. Give it a few years and wait until you see what you guys started. I don't know that I could have gone, I probably would have just sat there sobbing! lol - I've wanted this for us for so long - and this community is coming alive.

I am not worried about our future, in the slightest, anymore. And, I will never make the mistake of missing JandBeyond in the future. Hils and Robert are also coming. :) lol - we loved it - even the tiny bit we saw thru Twitter and videos and HTML.

Kudos to all who made this happen, to all those who attended ... and to all those who were there in spirit. It is truly inspiring to witness everything going on with Joomla!

It was great to see the people behind the usernames! Yourself definitely included, as well as Nicholas who as your link shows won an award with Akeeba that was long overdue. Out of all others who I enjoyed meeting I think Emmanuel should be mentioned because everyone agreed he sets a great example. He won a well-deserved innovation award after learning development through experience but is a modest person liked by all.
Equally inspiring were the keynotes by Ryan and Johan who I think made it clear that developers are at the heart of the community and have a good part of Joomla's fate in their own hands.
FlexiContent/Access, Nooku, Akeeba and K2 were the buzz words for taking Joomla beyond itself but I suspect jSeblod and OneContent will soon be added to the hall of fame - and anyway nothing presented at JAB failed to impress.
But I also want to thank Herman and others for doing some great sessions on general subjects which sometimes are even more useful than learning more about extensions.
Thanks for all the German and Belgian beer!
