JDSE - a Joomla Developers Search Engine

A joke earlier brought me to this idea. I thought it would be great if you could just 'ask Joomla' when you had questions, like 'what order do you render pages?' or 'what methods does JURI have?'.

So I made a custom Joomla search engine. The idea is to help cut out some of the clutter when searching for help, by including only reputable Joomla documentation sites. No, I don't mean just joomla.org stuff, but from 3PDs and other sites that post good stuff about Joomla. I know of some sites, but I didn't want to show favoritism before presenting the idea to people here.

So it would rock if you could let me know some good sites that you find helpful and I'll add them to the list. I'm starting with just some of the Joomla.org sites, rather than the entire site. I think sites that provide any kind of practical Joomla information should be included, but I want to limit it to the sections of the sites that actually hold that information. I would also like to limit it to information about 1.5+

Current sites:
forum.joomla.org
developer.joomla.org
extensions.joomla.org
api.joomla.org
docs.joomla.org

I don't get any ad revenue from the search engine by the way. You can post here, or on twitter @gnomeontherun and I'll update the list.

EDIT: I changed the name, just to avoid any possible conflicts.

Yes great idea!

Alledia for sure but don't forget Compass Designs. If it wasn't for them I would not have been able to create Joomla 1.5 templates so early on.

Thanks for the suggestions, only sites that contain documentation type information will be used. The idea is to provide support information, at least with this one. I could make another that has any and all joomla related content I suppose.

I went ahead and had the energy to create a little admin module that will allow you to access Joogle in the admin.

Keep suggesting documentation type sites, and I might make a search engine that deals with all Joomla related details in the near future.

I have not asked for permission, not from Joomla or from Google. Actually you got me to look at Google's terms, and this would likely be a violation.

"One of the conditions for all uses is that you can't mess around with our marks. Only we get to do that. Don’t remove, distort or alter any element of a Google Brand Feature. That includes modifying a Google trademark, for example, through hyphenation, combination or abbreviation, such as: Googliscious, Googlyoogly, GaGooglemania. Do not shorten, abbreviate, or create acronyms out of Google trademarks. "

So I will change it here shortly.

I have put this together based on the ideas I've had, and don't really expect it to be something useful to the average visitor. The idea is to provide a narrow search engine that targets the most likely places that someone can find information about Joomla, basically this is intended to be a help feature. So anyone with admin access could use it. It could be easily adapted for front end use, but I don't see it necessary, anyone with limited site access probably won't be doing much that needs the search engine.
