Joomla! 1.6 - Calling all Joomla! Developers!

Hannes Papenberg, who is helping drive the 1.6 release, is asking for our help. It's a good time for us to start getting involved in the final stages of this 1.6 development effort as things head towards beta. Hannes provided a nice update and a list of the specific bugs he would like help fixing, along with a general call for other bugs/fixes.

Please try to get (increasingly) involved - Joomla! needs you!

PS - Way to go to Klas for all of his efforts fixing Joomla! 1.6 Cache. Hannes has pulled his code into core and announced things are now working! Klas put a ton of effort into this and I agree with Hannes, "Thank you very much for this!"

Even the polls?

Polls wasn't a feature from 1.5 - it was an insult! lol!

Didn't have the idea to be funny.
@Amy - It was a feature, even working in the worst possible way. Now considering what is worst? Having a feature implemented in a bad way or not having the feature at all.
The funniest is that the feature was drop off board, because there are better third party extensions. Unfortunately I can not recall any at the moment.

Yea, I understand, was just joking around. We *do* need a good poll solution - what we had really needed to go, though. It was not at all what we want to "show off" Joomla!. Too outdated.

Part of the challenge is that it really needs to be much more dynamic - an ajax solution of sorts. With 1.6, the JXtended comments have an Ajax option that can be activiated. As developers study how that works, we'll see some good poll replacements come out.

If I remember correctly, Gergo had a survey component for 1.6 last summer as his GSOC project. That's another solution we'll be able to use for polls (and much more.)

Kind of funny because I believe Drupal also has an outdated poll solution that they also need to update. It's one of those pieces of technology that shows it's age.

Is there a link for Gergo's component? I may try to polish it.

Here's a link to all of the 2009 GSoC projects. Gergo reminded me that the code is over a year old and that it will take some work to bring it to speed with where 1.6 is at now. But, there's a lot of good code there to get started with! Thanks Gergo!

Thnx Amy & Leo.

It would be great if more people test it, due to amount of changes. Here is an outline of what has been done from my side: Cache changes.pdf
