I was doodling and brainstorming on my 4-weeks old Joomla! project, which templating system is powered by Morph (JoomlaJunkie).

For those who aren't familiar with it, Morph redefines "module position" as blocks layout (in my own interpretation and understandings). Not only this block layout is something useful and great, but also it tackles the most typical issue of Joomla template, which is the module position "left" on the right side! More in-depth read can be found here: Joomla Template Semantic by JoomlaBamboo.

In Morph framework, instead of calling this wrongly named "left" a left; they used sidebar. To be more precise, the typical "left" module position is called "Outer sidebar" while "right" as "Inner sidebar". Make more senses aint it?

Back to my "rant", so after few months of adopting Morph, I am so used to these blocks that whenever I am doodling for Joomla project, I'll draw these blocks/boxes. And that explains my previous short post regarding:

How I wish Morph's block layout has its very own sketchbook like Paranaiv's or Behance's !

I'm not sure i get this one Ajmal, most of all why you posted this here? If anything surely this would be more appropriate in the feature requests board of the Morph forum?

Hi there Chris,

Actually I was looking for a suitable place to share my Joomla thoughts and ideas. I couldnt find any suitable medium but here. Most of my circles and networks are not Joomla or web literate at all, so posting on my blog make no sense as well. It was co-incident that my first post was about Morph, since I was doodling on my J! project and noticed I keep on drawing Morph blocks layout; thought it would be great to have such sketchbook as above.

I did went and read some recent posts on All Blog Posts here i alltogetherasawhole, I noticed most posts are for developers, by developers. I do feel like out of place here but I think it wouldnt hurt if I share Joomla! views from non-coder/programmer perspective like myself. If this idea of mine is against the purpose of alltogetherasawhole community, then maybe I should delete it. What do you think?

I guess it was just the title of the post that didn't really make sense - "Joomla rant.." and the post itself didn't really have much context that would make sense for anyone else reading the post.

If it was a bit more descriptive, first explaining what Morphs blocks where and how you saw the sketch pad working (though i don't see how it would differ from any other grid sketchbook), i guess it would lend to more discussion on the topic.

That said, i still think this would be better suited in the suggestions board of the forum, as the discussion would undoubtedly benefit all our other Morph users (most of which aren't members of this site).

As for having your "tech" blog here, i think its great :) You just need to keep in mind the people reading it may not all know about Morph or its feature set, so making your posts a bit more descriptive would definitely help get a discussion going ;)

Chris,

I actually saw it first with some random articles looooong time ago, but it was for iPhone and web browsers. I always find myself drawing these blocks first, then decide what to include -for each and every page, or J! talk, components- by drawing and doodling modules afterward.

I hope that made senses. If it still doesn't, maybe you will --after seeing the project goes live-- since my approach this time is based on minimalism instead of just throwing tons of modules and cramped each page.

Regrading suggestion boards and community sharings on Morph forum, trust me, I'll have a list to share and to ask ;) Just waiting on that new Morph and forum site to be up!

Joke aside, somehow I feel this exposure and finding could benefit audiences here in some ways.

Now your post makes much more sense! And yes, this is a developers and site builders network and you are definitely building a Joomla site, so you're in the right place here and among friends!

What you are doing, or Morph is doing with the blocks is what most designers call wireframes. Like this site that offers information and reviews about wireframe software http://wireframes.linowski.ca/

This can be a great tool to figure out what you want your site pages to look like without designing or coding to get there.

I don't know if ProThemer could get you a sketch pad to go with it for the price they sell Morph though, it may cost more in shipping around the world than the price of Morph itself!

Robert,

I stumbled upon but never know what wireframes were! Thanks for telling me that! Getting feedback and learning from mistakes are those things that I am looking for when I write this blog. It looks like I made a right decision by choosing ATAW as the platform to channel the Joomla side of me :)

Yeah thats why I only wish or want it; never really need it :P

Ajmal,

As Robert says "you're in the right place here and among friends" :) I know you have a lot to bring to the table and I'm looking forward to seeing more from you - you're a fast learner so I'm confident that your next blog post will definitely have a clear title and more comprehensive information from scratch. ;)

Take care and keep those loads of ideas coming!
- Tess
