JoomlaFox! - Joomla! for firebug - Firefox extension
What is?
JoomlaFox is 2 diferent thinks: one Firebug extension that runs on Firefox (based on Drupal for Firebug developed by Matt Cheney ) and one Joomla Plugin. If you have both enabled, and logged as a superadministrator, you will see some information about your Joomla or Joomla 3rd Extensions.
For now is just one beta preview:
How this work?
The JoomlaFox Firefox Extension look for some hiden divs on code of page and for each div with one special ID show that contend in one tab. Simple.
What more provably is possible to do with next versions of JoomlaFox?
Since is possible show any div, is also possible show forms, and give back to site some information or requests to main site. So is possible too store or in cookies or as a session some information, like what info would like to show or not, since load each time what is, for example, the server version, is waste of time.
What really would be interesting if this tool become in future ( wish list )
1. List all data from Forms
2. Permit developer to send POST or GET fields with any name and value for debug/test some feature
3. List all queries executed.
4. Permit any 3rd developer by simply add some tags or his code and use JoomlaFox to help him (maybe in some way that if JoomlaFox is not running will do not change any part of code )
5. List permissions of important files/folders, and maybe alert some errors
6. List Joomla version and alert if is outdated
7. List all installed extensions and they version. If possible in future list what of they are outdated too.
8. List full description of the Apache, PHP and MySQL that is important a Joomla site, and maybe alert errors.
9. Check if features can be enabled and not are ( like server suporting Gzip but user do not use it ).
10. Make possible to control JoomlaFox almost only by Firefox, for be faster and do not need change it via Joomla Admin all time )
11. Please say your opinion. Lets think about this.
Well, I really would like to make with help of more people one tool that if enabled permit know faster almost all important information about one joomla site and debug it faster.
What you can do for JoomlaFox!
Well, anyone can at least propose features and based with what people want more I will try implement. Also would speed the development if who propose try send part of code for that feature, like propose show how much users are online and send me the right select on database, or anyting more complex, ofcourse.
What is possible do with actual version?
Well, almost nothing so useful. And is just for it that im looking for some feedback and ideais to implement on JoomlaFox, and for sure if have more people interested in use it I will do it more faster than just do it for what I personally need to debug more faster my extensions.

I think it should be used on development environments only not a production site.
Or anyone with FireBug and that plugin can use it to collect info about your website if you have the Joomla Plugin installed.
Maybe some sort of user authentication to avoid that?

Sure that have one to avoid it. actual version do nothing than show a few messagens, but nexts will be more useful and, of course, dangerious
In the current version I only enables information to be displayed to authenticated users type superaadministrator. As this is still beta, it is interesting that at least at this stage does not use on production sites.
Whenever possible I try to keep JoomlaFox the simplest and clearest possible to allow other developers to look for possible security breaches for users who are not superadmins site. Maybe even force the use not only via User registered, but also via IP. And, of course, as the opinion of the developers if is or not recomended to use on prodution sites, that will make me alert anyone before download.

A great idea.
Things that would help:
1) Ability to show/hide module names/parameters as an overlay - perhaps parameters could be similar to the way you can browse CSS in Firebug currently
2) Ability to show SQL UPDATE/INSERT queries, not just SELECTs
3) Ability to dynamically turn SEF URLs on and off, or see the re-written URL as well
Excellent work though - keep going!
