I wanted to share a quick post on community initiatives in Latin America. You might have noticed tweets from folks in Brazil, Chile, Mexico, and other Latin American countries and wondered what's going on. While some of the discussion has related to difficulties with the Joomla trademark, the more important message is that community is strengthening and more active in that region. That's good to see and deserving of our support.
In Brazil, Joomleiro group has formed as an important group of Joomla professionals in that country. These individuals are well known contributors, site builders, and developers who have been around, many since Mambo. I encourage those of you who do not speak Portuguese to use Chrome in order to read this excellent article by Emerson Luiz Rocha as it speaks very clearly about responsibilities we each have as members of our community. There is a strong sense of duty and respect in this piece and it is a good reminder for each of us. There are links at the bottom of the article leading to posts from other important members of the Brazilian community deserving of attention.
A second community initiative in Latin America is the Juuntos group and Jokte distribution. This post from Miguel Tuyaré explains how Latin American Joomla users are pulling together as a region. Take time to read the links in his post, as well. I cannot over-emphasize the importance of this work for Spanish speaking Joomla users in the area as they support one another and strengthen their shared ecosystem. The passion and collaboration is resulting in tangible results, including Jokte, a distribution of Joomla geared to Latin America, higher educational curriculum in Chile, Joomla Days and other open source events.
I encourage Joomla community members in the US and Europe to pay attention to what's happening in Latin America. Please try to find an opportunity to get to know members of these communities and see if you can help. It's great to see this passion and interest growing and certainly these folks deserve our respect.
Thanks Amy ... Your words are a fresh breath, and remember that everyone is invited. All together, as a whole, :D
Thanks Amy, your support is highly valued.

Thank you for your article about the changes, changes and difficulties of the Latin American communities
There's a lot going on here in Latin America. Thank you for spreading the word Amy!
What we are doing is a revolution. This is only the beginning and all come with great force. Join juuntos and Jokte!, And build a new paradigm in the free software ...
Thanks Amy for believe and understand our commitment and how deeply serious our ideas are...
Hugo - after watching Joomla Day Chile and listening to the panel discussion, I found myself thinking about Tracy Chapman's Revolution. I thought it was fitting.

It is so good to see all of this interest in improving the Joomla code base. We sometimes forget about how important each of the freedoms are in the GPL. The GPL empowers us to use, learn from, adapt, and distribute code. As we add to the community of developers who do so, it does become a revolution of software and indeed we are a great force of geeks innovating software.
Thanks to each of you for your commitment to this cause and for the encouragement you bring to those of us who also are working in these directions.
I Love Tracy Chapman. I leave this
