SMF - Birds of a Feather Don't Always Flock Together

As some of you saw in a recent blog post here on ATAAW by Marius of JFusion, the Simple Machines Forum software has had a bit of a rough patch with leadership/developer team issues the past few months, so much so the software founder came back to join the discussions. It seemed for a short while that no good would come of it all, as the discussions escalated and spewed over into the community itself there on the SMF boards.

To make a long story short, there was a mass exodus of developers, some 30 plus that were calling for a restructure of leadership, who decided they might find greener pastures in other places (some say they were even forced out, but I'm not here to debate the cause of exit strategy).

It seems SMF itself has enough support to release a new version of the 2.0 software, with the release of 2.0 RC3 in the past few weeks, and the group that has moved on is also seeing some progress through their newly formed http://www.yourasoft.org foundation.

I will leave it to SMF Founder Jeff Lewis to explain on his personal blog in a post he made last week about their progress and direction.

I want to wish the new group well in their endeavor, and hope to see a new generation of software that will match or surpass the great features and benefits I've come to love over the years using SMF.

It's really great when you can see 2 positives result from what seemed to be such a negative situation.

Now that we have our code repository set up, a developers work group and a project management work group going – we’re hoping to see some code started before the end of the week. It’s pretty exciting stuff!
Nice. That's really great - wish them the very best! Thanks for sharing that, Robert.
