Using mootools in admin component development

Does anyone know of a good tutorial on using the Mootools library to make custom components have some nice ajax, and js effects? In particular best practice on using it in the MVC framework. I see the odd snippet reference here and there but no guide on how to include its use in an admin component. For example how to affect an item record from the admin list row without reloading the page, or using a slider reveal for additional record data in a standard admin view.

Laurens Vandeput had a very good blog post and a downloadable sample of an Mootools/Ajax component on his Syncleon site, but the site is down!

JXTended uses Mootools and Ajax with their Labels Extension. It's a commercial product; if you have it it's a good learning example.

Recommend using Ian's new Mootools Upgrade Helper to swap out the old 1.1 version to the newest Mootools. The plan is that will be part of Joomla! 1.5.16. The problem with Mootools has been the old 1.1 version. Once it is updated, we'll start to see more examples of it's use. Using 1.1 makes no sense right now, we need to use 1.2.

I'll ping Stian and see if he has examples for you.

Also - feel free to join the Developer's group. It's good to post these types of questions there so that the answers are easier to locate later.

"nice ajax, and js effects?"

The question to ask yourself is; do you need to add coolness or do you want to gain on usability? If it's the first I'd reconsider the need.

I don't have any joomla specific tutorials at hand unfortunately.
But one could always do a tut once in a while ;)

Joomla lets you do some effects out of the box, but as amy says, it's limited to moo 1.1.
I wouldn't mind sharing a few tricks when I get the time :)

@Arno why choose, when you can have both :)

Easy to read "nice ajax, and js effects" as wham bang without focus.
Thankfully usability is foreground ;)
