We're not an underground success anymore

Larry Garfield of palantir.net poses what I think are some very astute questions in his article "We're not an underground success anymore."

The article is specific to another CMS, but in my opinion one could very well substitute the word "Joomla" rather than the other CMS's name in many cases and ask the same questions.

That one post covers a lot of ground... and could definitely be used as an outline for our little CMS as well.

Good find HarryB. Thanks for sharing it... I'm going to have to read that again!

Some compelling reading in there, Harry.

Interesting that D! has similar challenges to J!, albeit with their own differences or nuances but the context is very similar. Especially the issue of finding benevolent sponsors and or mixing with paid development.

What I take from this post is written between the lines but not necessarily spoken (written).

I think, yes, there is a need for J! to professionalise its content and appearance but it should never lose touch with its roots as a PROJECT (Joomla is a project not a product) and always be humble in its appearances. Okay perhaps there is a better word than 'humble' but what I'm trying to express is that Joomla should always appear friendly and community driven rather than corporate and super professional. People like a few rough edges. Appealing to professionals and hobbyists at the same time is a balancing act that can be better performed by specialists, not necessarily J.org.

This post has been very useful for me to consolidate some thoughts that have been bouncing around.

Harry, thank you for bringing it to our attention.
