Why ATAAW Should Never Be 'On Property'.

In response to a comment Amy Stephen made in a discussion, I understand where you're coming from on the idea that the type of environment we have here at ATAAW should be 'on property'.

But I'm starting to realize more and more, this is our world here, that yes you created, but it's taken on a life of it's own... we, All Together as a Whole, created this 'community' of Joomla users, supporters, developers, designers et al. We even have some open minded team members visit and share here from time to time. That's a positive.

As for what we have accomplished, yes the magazine made it on property, but we've done so much more in the past 4 months as well... we've become a voice, albeit a somewhat annoying one at times to 'The Project', but we aren't going to change the world in a day.

this paragraph removed per request...

I see we have Andrew Eddie posting to the WG list and then Brad followed up on the forum about what all happened in Q4 of 2009 within the community and looking for a way to not have it spiral 'out of control' again. That's a positive.

Even if they already had a solution being brewed up for 8 months and didn't think to use it for community issues as well.

Had this place not existed, 'The Project' would not have heard our collective voices so loudly. They would not be aware that some of their actions regarding the lack of 'transparency' are not viewed as positive and needing change.

Had this place not existed, many more things may not have been brought to the discussion table in such an organized way.

I see this place as a much needed resource for anyone to voice their opinion as they need to say it. It's not a place for 'conservative minded' individuals to hang out maybe, but what is said here in these boards, blogs and posts often times needs to be said, and if it were said 'on property' it would more than likely be moderated.

I think this place should always exist. It's the ying to the yang. It's good for business to keep things in check. It's a great resource for pooling talent on projects like the magazine, getting Mootools 1.2 into action... etc... etc...

I hope this place never ends up on property. If it did, it would surely die due to bureaucratic BS.

Long live ATAAW in it's current state. It's raw and unedited. Something we won't ever see at this level again 'on property'.

No need to fix or hide this place Amy, it's the most important thing you've ever done for the Joomla Project as a whole. No matter what anyone tells you. Thank You Amy Stephen.

I like raw and unedited - A. Lot.

Maybe you're right, Robert. Certainly, we're making some great friendships here that I can only see growing, especially as we meet at J! and Beyond events, and Joomla! Days, etc.

I think we are helping the project by bringing in some new ideas and contributors - people like you, Robert, since we need some passion and enthusiasm to help us find the love, again.

I hope, very much, to see you on OSM Board because you got a heart of gold, my friend, and you have such a commitment to the community and we can leach your drive and enthusiasm and positive attitude while we search for ours, again.

Think about all the folks getting involved - some for the first time - some again. It's great watching Paul and Dex lead the Joomla! Community Magazine as they work In. The. Open. - I think others will join in and it will grow.

I want to be All Together, As A Whole, like we were before the GPL talks. I know that those working in the project want the same thing. I guess you can't go backwards - but we can be even better. I think we've been a part of helping that transition take hold.

I hope you had a great birthday, Robert. You are a pretty cool dude. Respect.

Okay Brian, maybe I'm thick, but what does one do regarding the issue you've identified? Or have I missed the context?

@ BT, agreed on that ... I do like the groove here.

@Amy Thanks for the support and kind words. I had a great Birthday!

@discussion. I think you guys are correct, the freedom to speak our minds here allows that 'groove' to flow so well. I think Brian is on to something... the size of the captive audience here is focused, dedicated, often to the point of bordering on obsessed, with Joomla! and it's health in the greater community of Open Source. It really does matter to us.

With that idea in mind, this platform allows us to get involved in specific areas or topics of discussion that feeds our passion. Just look at the 'groups' that have formed and the discussions that have stemmed from them.

I hope to see this place stick around for a good long while, because right now, it's produced a whole lot more good than bad in my mind, that's for sure.

@ Everyone - Agreed ATAAW is a wonderful addition to the Joomla! Community. I've been (too lightly) participating with Joomla! since day one and it's wonderful to see the various communities and discussion s evolve - particularly as Brian says, toward this kind of medium.
